Leveling a new ranger.
I was wondering if anyone has tried leveling as a R/Rt and how well it was and what is the best to build to level as in factions. Also I was wondering if anyone could tell me the major difference between determined shot and power shot besides determined shot recharging skills if it misses.
Bow Attack. If Determined Shot hits, you strike for +5...17 damage. If Determined Shot fails to hit, all of your attack skills are recharged.
Bow Attack. If Power Shot hits, you strike for +5...17 damage.
what confuses me is... I don't get the point of power shot ever existing if Determined shot just 1 ups it anyways and both are accessible early on in the game...in any campaign.
Thanks!

About your first question, i can't help you, sorry.
[Determined Shot]
[Power Shot]
Check the cost, activation time and recharge. Those are the differences.

Determined shot is 5 less energy but recharges 4 secs slower. I haven't made a faction ranger yet so I can't help you on that. There are no "Best builds". Make a build you are comfortable with, you like using, and is somewhat viable.
Also your post has an error where you say "Savage Shot" instead of Determined

R/Rt is one of the more popular combos amongst most rangers this day and age.
Power shot shoots in half the time that determined shot does. But don't worry, you definitely find more of those "why the heck does this skill even exist" skills.

Splinter Weapon is a good investment for an R/Rt (Suprised no one's mentioned it before). Paritcularly with skills like Dual shot, Triple shot, Volley, and Barrage.
Power Shot's big draw is it recharges faster and fires faster than normal (Normal attack length is around 2 seconds I think, so PS's activation time of 1s means it's fast)
Point Blank shot is a high damage quick recharge skill if you don't mind getting a bit closer to your opponent, but that's Prophecies only. (Zojun's Shot is the equivilent)
A defensive skill is good to take. I like Lightning Reflexes, but Zojun's Haste looks good too.
I'll admit not having spent much time on my Ranger beyond heroes though, so this is advice given mostly from general GW knowledge.

I don't want to start a new thread just to ask this question, since this is about leveling a new ranger from faction, I thought I put my question here, hopefully someone sees it and can give an answers.
I started another ranger from faction yesterday, and reach level 10. First thing I did when I got the Charm animal skills was get the ranger a pet tiger, at level 3, at which time, the ranger was level 2.
Because I wanted a dire tiger, I level the pet till level 4, while the ranger was at level 3, then I stop keeping track of the pet's level, thinking this is going well, as it is level faster then the ranger.
Now, the curious thing is, my ranger is now level 10, the pet tiger not only is it not dire yet, it is only level 5 when I login today to play.
Omg, the answers just pop into my mind, but maybe someone wants to know, anyway this is what I am thinking, could it be pet do not get quest experience rewards? Only kill experience rewards? aiya silly me. hahahahahah

Power shot was around before Determined shot. I love it when the new players come in and assume that all of the skills in the game have been there since release or have never changed.
Sorry...that may have sounded like I was making fun of the newbies....I'm not....really it's just that soo many seem to never do any research at all or check out the wikis and fansites for information before asking a question.
LOL.....and to think I actually wrote all that before seeing Pie's post. See...this is what I mean.
And Pie....no....there is a reason you do not yet have a Dire Tiger and it has nothing to do with the source of his experience, well...unless you haven't been taking the pet along with you....read here http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Guid...ing_a_Dire_Pet

Always a condescending comment, that is why I hate posting on these forums. Why would I care if it was changed or not? I am looking at it currently, the here and now. Yeh yeh powershot was first and determined was added, that doesn't changed the fact the skills are almost identical (If they were changed, they were definitely not changed dramatically I bet), I was only asking the benefits / faults to each one.
Anyways besides the mentioned above post, the rest of the posts were very helpful, thanks.

Would it have been anymore trouble to answer the question then go off on a rant like you did?
Second, it's absolutely pointless to look at how skills have changed over time when comparing them in the present.
And third, you're wrong. Both Determined Shot and Power shot have been around since Prophecies.

Pets don't get quest rewards you get in town (not sure if they get any quest rewards), so chances are, in factions, you'll outlevel your pet. Easiest way to get a Dire is to go back after you're 20th level and death level it up (use the guide some one else posted, there's also one in the forums here).

Best in Factions for a R/Rt:
[skill]Barrage[/skill][skill]splinter weapon[/skill]. Knock yourself out.
[skill]powershot[/skill] = worst skill ever. That's the important difference between the two. The others are activation time, recharge, energy cost.

I don't think this skill deserves the 'worst skill ever' brand since there is still a skill called:
[Called Shot]
Don't get me wrong, it's a bad skill still, but it's not any worse then the other piss poor "expensive attack skills lacking utility" that the Marks line has plenty of.
